A substantial upgrade is in the works at Northwest wine giant Ste. Michelle Wine Estates’ Woodinville headquarters. For the past year, representatives of the winery have nodded to a possible plan for redevelopment, and the specifics are now out. The company filed plans with the city of Woodinville outlining how the 118-acre site will be redeveloped with 156,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, a 120-room boutique hotel and 90 single-family homes.
The original plans proposed by the company also included the construction of dozens of town homes, but that idea met resistance from the Woodinville City Council and was removed from the final plan. Downtown Woodinville has been growing its housing stock, with hundreds of new apartments coming online in the spring, and 63 new townhomes popping up thereafter,
Ste. Michelle Wine Estates’ CEO Shawn Conway spoke to the company’s plans for its section of Woodinville, detailing how Chateau Ste. Michelle will evolve into a modern, multi-faceted, year-round destination. The future will focus on continuing to craft some of Washington’s finest wines, while entertaining new residents and returning guests from the local community and around the world. Estate fans will be happy to see the existing chateau tasting room, manor house and carriage house remain on the property.
Woodinville is heralded as Western Washington’s prime wine destination and has sparked several major redevelopment projects, including this one, which comes about two years after Ste. Michelle listed its property for sale. In addition to the new retail, residential and hospitality spaces, the Woodinville winery site will expand its current concert venue from 4,300 seats to 5,800, including additional parking. It also plans to make pedestrian access easier and increase the number of trees on property. Groundbreaking is expected in 2026.
